Formerly known as Neltharion the Earth-Warder, Deathwing the Destroyer is the main character, enemy and opposition leader of the newly introduced expansion – Cataclysm.

Deathwing is one of the five Dragon Aspects. He is also the leader of the black dragonflight. A long time ago, Neltharion was empowered by the Titans. He was leader of the deep places of Azeroth. However, this did not last for long, as he was driven to madness by the Old Gods. He turned against the other Dragon Aspects soon after. The mortals and dragons now whispered his name with fear and contempt. Deathwing involved himself into the Second War, taking the form of Daval Prestor, a young human diplomat and noble (who King Terenas considered a strong leader – while under Prestor’s control – King Terenas even forced his daughter, Calia, to marry him), in order to destroy the Alliance from inside. Alexstrasza, Deathwing’s arch-enemy was turned to a slave for the Horde thanks to him. Deathwing was eventually defeated by the other Dragon Aspects, and was forced to retreat to Deepholm enraged, to recuperate himself from his defeat.

He was thought to be dead, until he returned in WoW – Cataclysm. His lust for revenge caused "The Shattering”, reshaping Azeroth forever. Now he continues to fly over Azeroth and launches flames over the continents of Azeroth ocasionally.
Players can ocasionally see Deathwing fly over and launch firebolts and flames over them. The initial hit causes an instant kill, and the player earns the "Stood in the Fire” achievement. There is no exact time or zone Deathwing spawns, so you can see him anywhere, anytime.

Deathwing will also be the final boss of Cataclysm, and can be encountered in the Twilight Highlands and Deepholm, where the player must battle Deathwing and lose, retreating
